Catalan independence hangs in the balance

Voters in Catalonia go to the polls on Sunday in a regional election that will decide whether or not to push for independence. It looks like being close.

Catalonia’s “yes” vote is just the beginning

No surprise that the "yes" vote won a big victory in Catalonia's independence referendum. The question is whether it was big enough to bring the central government to the negotiating table.

Catalonia’s choice

Catalans want to vote on whether to be independent from Spain. Getting a referendum will be harder than it is for Scotland, but there's probably more chance of a "Yes" vote if it happens.

Just a war of words over Gibraltar

Spain and Britain have been at loggerheads this week over Gibraltar, Britain's last territory on the European mainland. But there's no prospect of a rerun of the Falklands War.
