For those who are interested in the future of Australia’s two-party system – a topical issue, not least as regards the Tasmanian election that we’ve been talking about recently – the Robert Menzies Institute at Melbourne University has just put out a discussion paper on the subject. It’s based on a round-table discussion held last year where I was one of the participants.
The paper is being launched with an online forum or “webinar” tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at 3pm eastern Australian time, which will feature me alongside Georgina Downer and Zachary Gorman. It should be a good discussion. Registration is free; just follow this link.
Regular readers will already know a lot about my views, but if you want to get up to speed on the subject beforehand, this post from a few weeks ago on the minor party preference flow wouldn’t be a bad place to start.
.
UPDATE, Thursday: Yesterday’s discussion went well. I’ll post a link when it becomes available, but in the meantime you can download the paper itself here.
